The client
ZF Automotive Ltd is a global leader in automotive technology, with facilities across the UK supporting the development and manufacture of advanced vehicle systems. Their site in Peterlee, County Durham, was undergoing the construction of a new warehouse facility to expand operations. ZF required specialist support during the build to ensure the project stayed on schedule and met the high standards necessary for their critical manufacturing processes.
The project
The initial request was straightforward: to screed the internal floor of the new warehouse. However, as the project developed, ZF identified additional requirements and challenges. Resultantly, they then asked us to step in and provide further support. This included external drainage solutions to address issues with standing water. From there, our role only grew, as we worked alongside the project manager and site maintenance team to provide practical solutions to unexpected challenges that arose throughout the build.

Our approach
We began by agreeing a detailed scope of works with the project manager and aligning activities with the wider construction schedule. We carefully planned our work so that the building framework could be erected while we completed the first stage of groundwork, before moving on to screeding the warehouse floor once the structure was watertight. Beyond this, ZF asked us to provide solutions to several unforeseen challenges. When a leak was discovered above a critical piece of equipment, our team designed and installed a bespoke diversion system, which proved so effective it was retained permanently. In addition, to prevent contamination during works, we created dust-free vestibule areas, enabling contractors to break through the external walls into the warehouse without disrupting production.
The results
What began as a single service quickly evolved into a full-on support role. We became a trusted partner throughout the project, providing ZF with a single point of contact for multiple complex issues. The end result was a new warehouse facility delivered on schedule, with solutions in place to protect production processes and long-term operational efficiency. ZF Automotive were extremely satisfied with the results and the proactive approach taken, praising our team for stepping in to resolve challenges that extended well beyond the original brief.
